Compendium of good practices for socio-emotional education in VET

Compendium of good practices for socio-emotional education in VET

The last period was very intense for the 3H partners but also very successful. The first output has been released and it’s a very interesting volume. After the project partners’ training meeting, done at the beginning of February, dedicated to the analysis of the “Compendium – Collecting Good Practices” in the field of social-emotional education, the two versions of the volume, in Italian and in English, have been published.

Starting from the main objectives of 3H Project (i.e. develop teacher and trainer skills through introducing methodologies for the management of student demotivation within the class group and a socio-emotional perspective into the day-to-day work with students, and improve learners’ learning ability through the development of skills for the management of socio-emotional aspects) the partners developed the approach, the methodology and the document structure to draft this Compendium. This volume was produced from a series of six Learning Teaching Training Activities (LTTA) organized among the partners. Four of these LTTAs consisted in international visits to the following VET institutes such as Centro San Viator, Friesland College, Luovi and Ufil Puerta Bonita. The two remaining were online “Virtual Coffee Breaks”. The main goal of this work is to face the problem in Vet Schools and in young people of educational ineffectiveness and dropout.

To do this, the team highlighted four “attack points”, that are variously represented in the collected body of practices:

  • Welcoming/guidance: for example in #1 Clinical Art, #5 Gamification and Digital Tools, #6 Individual Learning Path, #7 Joint Tutoring and Flexibility, #9 Lego® Art, #10 Mediation Project, #22 Serious Game (Escape Room), #25 Walk Of Life, #26 Women Group.
  •  Well-being and motivation: for example in #21 The School, A House Of Well Being
  • Self-directed learning: for example in #4 Ethazi, #5 Gamification and Digital Tools, #11Neets For Neets, #18 Renyo, #19Ruori assessment
  • Problem-based learning: for example in #3 Cultures in our classroom, #12 Pitstop, #14 Public events and products, #15 Rebound, #25 Walk of life, #16 Recipe book project.

Each good practice has some main goals that provide a description of what is meant by “socio-emotional learning” and “socio-emotional competences” in this Compendium. Such as community-building goals at different scales (European, local community, school, class), teamwork competences, personal expression connected to personal’s harmony, awareness, and self-contact. Other goals are linked to decision making and personalization and to develop the students’ reflexive competences.

Each goal is analysed deeply in the Compendium, in this way the reader will be able to search practices that are more useful to reach goals in their own VET centers and schools.

So, in the end, this document represents the first result of the strong collaboration and mutual contribution among the partners. This compendium is going to be the starting point for the development of specific guidelines and tools, at the service of organisations and their trainers. Anyone interested in this topic can download the Compendium in English or in Italian here.

Conclusions

The forthcoming steps will be very important to arrive prepared to the next phase of project, luckily the team works good together and is looking foward the Consensus Conference that will be held at the university of Sacro Cuore in Brescia, next 12th of May.
