Press Release: DRIVES’ Workshop on “Contributing to regional development by skills redesign in the automotive sector”

Brussels. On the 9th of October, at the European Week of Regions and Cities, the DRIVES consortium presented, to a diverse audience, the project goals and the role of the regional partners that are a key part of it. The event, organised by the Municipality of Mangualde, was a 90-minute workshop, moderated by DG GROW, where representatives from VSB, CLEPA, SEMTA and two regions, Mangualde Municipality and Moravia-Silesia addressed the latest news regarding the projects’ results and how regions position themselves to use this information to improve their regional development and local policies.

During the workshop, the partners presented and discussed with the audience the results from the Stakeholders Survey on European skills demand and how the project can help modernise the apprenticeship marketplace. Complementarily, each regional authority presented their involvement and interest in the DRIVES’ outcomes in the project and the importance of the automotive sector at their local level.

In its conclusions, the speakers were cohesive in defending the importance of regions as fundamental players in the implementation and monitoring of new guidelines/strategies and also as intermediaries of its local stakeholders. At the end of the day, the audience echoed the message that the “DRIVES project is about people, communities and connecting the dots”, as stated by Mrs Ana Abrunhosa, President of the Center Region’s Managing Authority.
