In defining the strategies for taking care of people affected by chronic pathologies, it is assuming a growing importance the choice of combining the medical assistance provided to the patient in Hospital and the assistance at home, according to a perspective of permanent and continuous care. The Heppy project is based on the following principles:

  • Holistic and systemic approach to medicine (focusing on the person, not on the patient) is gaining more and more credit;
  • The assistance service must be structured so as to answer to the person’s needs and research of human resources inside family’s environment
  • Health care professionals need to understand the specific needs and resources of the person they have to assist The project intends to provide professionals of health care that deliver medical care and assistance at home to patients with chronic diseases and disabled persons with the skills to acknowledge and understand the personal stories, character, attitudes, and cultural interests of the patient and how these are affected by the pathology, by combining two different approaches: Narrative medicine and Methodology of parents’ pedagogy. The combining of this 2 approaches aims to the development of a new interaction between the health carers, the patient and his/her family, based on a proactive exchange of information, knowledge and experiences.
