Summary
The number of work related accidents in EU differ a lot according to the standardised incident rates of fatal injury at work, excluding road traffic accidents and accidents on board transport in the course of work for 2012. In some countries must pass test on safety or must receive Electro technical safety instructions once every year. Therefore, to different regulations present barriers to mobility, Safety4EL will seek to remove such barriers by developing training modules and in association with employer organisations and unions seek to influence policy makers to work towards a recognised European certificate. As difficulty with foreign languages is by far the most feared problem when European young people contemplate working or studying abroad, the content of the course modules will be prepared so it may be used as part of CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning), the CLIL scaffolding mainly be based on online units with all words linked to dictionaries in 118 languages, this will help prepare craftsmen and apprentices for mobility.
Overall objective
Trans-European approach to ensure needed research/documentation of differences between the electrotechnical regulations in the four countries and development of a common course curricula with matching content that can be used online, during in-services courses, and integrated in VET.
Safety4L proposed outputs are innovative to other projects already carried out because:
- The proposed online materials can be used for long distance learning on an individual basis, as part of classroom teaching, and/or blended learning. There is nothing similar found in this field of safety training
- The planned online cases, quizzes, and multiple choice tests will be freely available from any devise with a web-browser in all partner countries
- In order to support mobility all texts will be linked word by word to online dictionaries and the produced learning materials will be supported by scaffolding techniques so they are suitable for CLIL
- All project outcomes will be freely available and online based on the CopyLeft principle which is a way to license a work allowing unrestricted redistribution, copying and modification.
During the research phase, the partners will examine and map areas that have not been done before: safety regulations in participants’ countries; safety training and possible safety tests for electricians; differences in electrical methods, systems and tools.
One of the projects that we have found interesting form its original objectives is the SERIO Project Onsite construction employees’ occupational safety in Europe the enhancement and strengthening of their Healthy and Safety Skills development by means of the creation of multimedia training, based on case studies with the use of contemporary devices. The SERIO application will be available for mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones (Android OS). The project does not target the electrotechnical sector, but general safety, we may however be able to exploit relevant parts of the Android based Application as a supplement to our own planned outputs.
