Schools 4.0 online project meeting and E-book progresses
The project Schools 4.0 aims at changing the national and European policies in Education and in all VET schools throughout Europe with a proven pedagogical tool. On the other hand, it intends to build a framework for rethinking pedagogical practices and identifying the changes to be made to move from a 19th-century school to a 21st-century school. More concretely, the project aims at developing a book, an E-Book, and a collection of best practices with the aim of creating a tool for making VET fit for the future.
Since the start of the project in 2018, two meetings and a training seminar took place with a lot of work being carried out by all partners, most of which related to the Intellectual output, and it has become clear the success of the partnership and achievements accomplished.
As part of the project activities an initial survey was carried out by the partners of the project with the overall purpose of answering the question “What should a 4.0 school look like?”. Even though the low lack of responses at European level, it was possible to organise the results in 3 main categories that represent what VET colleges should be working towards in the future.
Digitalisation of education has come up as a top priority, which has been also reinforced by the current situation caused by COVID-19, reinforcing the relevance of the project and 3 main pillars related to the digitalisation have been identified, namely: information analysis and data set interpretation as key learning areas in the century’s curriculum; informatics and computational programming as the basis of digitalisation and the social and collaborative components of digitalisation.
The third meeting of the “Schools 4.0 Innovation in VET” project, planned to happen in Kefalonia, Greece, for the 18th to the 22nd of May had to be converted in an online meeting and tool place on the 20th of May.
Partners of the project came together to share the progresses made regarding the production of the E-book consisting of a compilation of good practices that were designed, tested and evaluated by the different partners in classroom contexts and work based learning experiences, with the main purpose of contributing to the development of a framework for rethinking pedagogical practices and identifying the changes to be made to move from a 19th-century school to a 21st-century school.
Innovative practices from Greece, Portugal, and Denmark were shared and an agreement regarding the table of content reached. One thing that has become very clear was the impact of COVID-19 in terms of “pushing” VET colleges to re-think their approach to technology and digitalisation and the belief that the outputs and outcomes foreseen by the project will certainly be of support to other VET colleges around Europe.
