The TechSenior Project team met at the beginning of October 2018 for its final Transnational partnership meeting in Patras, Greece. Partners drawn from Denmark, Spain, UK and Greece met to discuss the outcome and experiences learnt as a result of the pilot testing of the TechSenior Courses; learning materials and delivery methodologies developed under this Erasmus + project. These have been piloted over recent months in each country.
The pilot phase involved over 108 Learners and 31 Trainers – well above the original numbers anticipated at the beginning of the project. During the project meeting partners had the opportunity to meet some of the Greek learners who participated in the programme to gain first-hand knowledge of how they perceived the learning and what motivated them to join the TechSenior training course. This personal reflection from our Greek colleagues was very refreshing to hear: for instance, one of the participants, Constantina had no previous knowledge of using computers, tablets or smartphones and at her age decided to tackle something new. She is now hooked and is very keen to continue learning and tackling more advanced aspects of technologies, social media; apps in order to communicate with friends and family alongside gaining confidence in online shopping and banking. She reinforced the findings from the pilot programmes across each partner country and said
“This has changed my life and given me confidence to keep learning. The materials were extremely useful, and I enjoyed using the on-line resources. I learnt a lot” – Constantina.
She went on to explain that the participants have since set up a regular time to meet together to practice and learn more together. This was something she had not expected but was great from both a social and learning perspective.
The Training programmes and learning resources are currently being refined following the evaluations of participating learners and trainers incorporating the lessons learnt. The final products and courses will be open to all. The course materials are in each partner language (English, Danish, Spanish and Greek), but it is considered that other countries could easily translate as necessary should they wish to adopt and indeed adapt for delivery.
