THE EVENT: The European Agenda for the Future of VET

THE EVENT organised by the European Forum of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (EfVET), European Association of Institutes of Vocational Training (EVBB) and European Vocational Training Association (EVTA) in Brussels in May 22-24, 2024. More than 280 VET providers, policymakers, and various industry stakeholders from Europe, Africa, and Asia participated in THE EVENT at the Autoworld Museum in Brussels.  This collaborative effort aimed to illuminate the pivotal role of Vocational Education and Training (VET) in shaping Europe’s future. Recognizing its significant contribution to employability and the pursuit of ‘skills and competencies for a sustainable future,’ the event also addressed the imperative of reducing ‘cracks in social cohesion’ for a Sustainable Europe by 2050. These three days event gathers VET professionals and stakeholders from Europe and beyond to discuss, innovate and shape the future of VET.

Through keynote, panel sessions, presentations were discussed in the different areas of discussion:

  • Collaboration between VET associations and actors emerged as a central theme
  • Recognize the competencies and abilities acquired using micro-credentials
  • Adapting VET systems for future ready skills
  • Facilitating international cooperation and knowledge sharing for VET improvement
  • Improving the visibility of the VET sector, reshaping its image in terms of quality and excellence
  • More cooperation between companies and VET centres
  • Territorial leader of the COVEs, dedicated to the water, craft and socio-sanitary sector

As highlighted in the event, VET’s importance goes beyond just individual employability. As well it plays a crucial role in driving economic growth, innovation, and competitiveness. We should be ensuring that workers have the skills needed to meet emerging industry demands, VET programs help business stay ahead of the curve and adapt to changing market conditions.

The European Training Foundations  (ETF) presentation of the brilliant digital tool ISATCOVE that will enhance excellence in VET centers to the necessary of the adoption of micro-credential.

THE EVENT has concluded with the signature of the new VET manifesto by the three associations’ presidents Prof Joachim James Calleja, Mr. Giorgio Sbrissa and Mr. Thiemo Fojkar. Three presidents took the floor during the session on the European Agenda for the Future VET. Three was a significant emphasis on the importance to enhance the visibility of vocational education and training, reshaping its image to one of quality and excellence.

In the conclusions Joachim James Calleja, EfVET President said: “We can lead the way, when we talk about VET, we mean quality and excellence”.

We believe that it will break through regional and geographic barriers on vocational education and training between Europe and 3rd countries, make common progress, and jointly promote the collaboration of international education.

Let’s celebrate the 24th of May as the European Day of VET – all we need is VET!
