In a digital era dominated by constant technological advancements, the significance of cybersecurity cannot be overstated. Recognizing this critical need, the REWIRE Project has emerged as a pioneering force, poised to shape the future of the cybersecurity industry through its innovative courses. Recently showcased in three insightful roundtable sessions during the EfVET conference in Rhodes, Greece, the REWIRE Project aims to create a robust blueprint for the cybersecurity sector and foster a concrete European Cybersecurity Skills Strategy.
The roundtable discussions, organized by EfVET and EVTA, brought together over 30 participants from diverse European countries. The project’s core mission is to bridge the gap between industry requirements and training provision, ultimately contributing to the growth, innovation, and competitiveness of the cybersecurity sector.
The Cybersecurity Skills Alliance – New Vision for Europe
At the heart of the REWIRE Project is the Cybersecurity Skills Alliance, an assembly of 25 partners representing academia, vocational education and training (VET), the cybersecurity industry, non-cyber industries, certification partners, and umbrella organizations. This collaborative effort builds upon four pivotal pilot projects—CONCORDIA, SPARTA, ECHO, and CyberSec4Europe—supported by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program.
Identifying Challenges and Defining Solutions
The roundtable sessions delved into the challenges faced by cybersecurity education and training. Issues such as the complexity of the field, the absence of relevant European regulatory frameworks, and the rapid evolution of technology and threats were identified. From this needs analysis, six criteria were established to select the courses:
- Demand in the Job Market: Aligning courses with market needs.
- Availability of Existing Courses: Leveraging already established resources.
- Stakeholder Input: Incorporating insights from industry experts.
- Certification: Ensuring recognized and validated qualifications.
- Relevance: Adapting to the ever-evolving cybersecurity landscape.
- Innovation: Embracing cutting-edge approaches and technologies.
The Chosen Four: Courses Unveiled
Following a thorough analysis, four flagship courses were selected to address the identified challenges:
- Cyber Threat Intelligence Specialist
- Cyber Incident Responder
- Penetration Tester
- CISO – Chief Information Security Officer
These courses promise to equip individuals with the essential skills required to thrive in the dynamic field of cybersecurity. Launching on November 20, 2023, with the first certification scheduled for February 2024, the courses mark a significant stride towards meeting the industry’s demands for skilled professionals.
