Visit to Don Bosco Sint-Denijs-Westrem in the framework of the SAAM project

On February 16, 2022 EfVET had the opportunity to visit the Don Bosco Sint-Denijs-Westrem school in Ghent together with African and European delegates in the framework of the SAAM Seminar. Don Bosco is a powerful source of inspiration to guide children and young people in their growth process. Don Bosco is a powerful source of inspiration to guide children and young people in their growth process. Through its education system, Don Bosco aims to offer a high-quality, diploma-oriented education that can prepare each student for the labour market or accessing higher education.

The visit was part of a multi-capacity building day project activity, the SAAM project funded by the ERASMUS programme.

Mrs. Hannelore Dessein, Managing Director and Lieven Boeve, General Director of Catholic Education in Flanders welcomed African and European delegates to Don Bosco Sint-Denijs-Westrem school. “This unique meeting will give an extra dimension to the internalisation of STEM education for us and for all the other students”, said Mrs. Dessein.

The guided tours, which included visits to the mechanics, graphic engineering departments, constructions and wood  departments, were given by the students. During our visit, we had the chance to discover the different educational trends that the school offers: industrial sciences, mechanics, electricity, graphical communication media, wood, and construction.

Each of the study directions have a similar structure despite the difference in each field. The first year is an introductory and common year, where students will discover the path they want to follow afterwards. Then, once they have decided, education in the specific field will start. Finally, the students also have the opportunity to specialise in a specific part of each study direction.
