WINGS – Work-Based Innovation for Next-Generation Skills

“WINGS – Work-Based Innovation for Next-Generation Skills is a three year project (November 2025 – November 2028) funded by Erasmus+ programme, under its Cooperation Partnerships in VET initiative.

WINGS project was conceived to reply to the challenges connected to employability and VET in Europe, having as baseline Bulgaria, Italy and Spain (represented in the project’s partnership), where youth unemployment and skills mismatch between educational outcomes and labour market needs are rising – issues that can be mitigated through effective Work-Based Learning systems.

Activities

As such, WINGS project aims to strengthen WBL systems in VET while replying to the:

  • Skills mismatch between education and labour market needs;
  • Limited integration of WBL in VET systems in several EU countries;
  • Lack of recognised certification for competences acquired in real work contexts.

To do so, WINGS partners will develop and test an innovative and inclusive WBL model that can be replicated across Europe, and that integrates training enterprises, digital learning tools, micro-credentials for skills’ recognition, while fostering a strong cooperation between VET providers and companies. Thus, the specific objectives of WINGS project are to:

  • Improve the quality of Work-Based Learning by providing tools and methodologies for VET institutions and companies;
  • Strengthen cooperation between education and labour market actors;
  • Create a system of micro-credentials to certify competences acquired in WBL contexts;
  • Promote inclusion and accessibility in WBL pathways, particularly for learners with fewer opportunities;
  • Ensure sustainability and scalability of the WINGS model at European level.

Expected results

WINGS foreseen results:

  • Guideline comprised of best practices implemented across Europe, aimed at VET providers and companies to enhance the effectiveness and quality of WBL environments;
  • Training Course targeting VET teachers and trainers, and in-company tutors, rooted on a micro-credential approach aimed to increase recognition and certification of skills and competences acquired by students through WBL, thus contributing for their mobility and employability across Europe;
  • An interactive massive open online course  (MOOC) platform, in which the above-mentioned Training Course will become available;
  • Transnational WBL Network that will foster a stronger cooperation between VET providers, companies and other key stakeholders, which will contribute to the replication of all WINGS results and outcomes beyond the project’s implementation period.
