From networking to systemic transformation in European projects
The upcoming ECON event, taking place on 3 December 2026 in Madrid, represents more than a traditional networking opportunity. It reflects an evolving approach to European cooperation, where projects are no longer isolated initiatives but part of a broader ecosystem shaped by shared values and emerging technologies.
Hosted by Telefónica and locally organised by Mad for Europe, the event will bring together organisations from across Europe in a setting that reflects both technological leadership and strong local engagement in European initiatives.
Building on previous editions, ECON has already demonstrated its capacity to generate concrete results: each event has involved approximately 80 organisations, contributing to the development and approval of more than 150 European projects. This track record highlights the initiative’s effectiveness in transforming networking into structured cooperation outcomes.
In a context where artificial intelligence is increasingly influencing project design, implementation and evaluation, ECON positions itself at the intersection between innovation and responsibility. The event will provide a space to explore how ethical AI can support more inclusive, transparent and impactful cooperation practices.
A distinctive feature of ECON is its dual focus: enabling participants to present concrete project ideas while also contributing to a wider reflection on the future of European collaboration. This includes discussions linked to policy developments such as the AI Act, as well as practical implications for VET providers, NGOs and public institutions.
Rather than promoting isolated success stories, ECON aims to generate transferable insights and long-term partnerships. In this sense, it aligns with the need—highlighted in European cooperation frameworks—to move from project-based logic towards sustainable, value-driven ecosystems.
