Since early 2026, EfVET is proud to be an active partner in the ROOT project, contributing to its development with the expertise of the VET community to ensure the initiative delivers value for the Earth Observation (EO) sector and VET learners.
ROOT aims to address the needs of employees, as well as employers in micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and career counsellors, in order to create the conditions for innovation and growth. Most importantly, the project focuses on empowering individuals to take informed decisions on their career, supporting their development and adaptability. The project will involve stakeholders from the quadruple helix – i.e. industry, academia, government and civil society – to create solutions applicable to the downstream Earth Observation (EO) sector, which supports fields such as climate monitoring, agriculture, urban planning and disaster management, and beyond.
Against this backdrop, the second issue of the ROOT Quarterly Update offers a look at how the project has moved from its launch phase into implementation. Across Europe, the ROOT consortium has spent recent months engaging stakeholders, designing career guidance approaches, planning collaborative Living Labs, while laying the groundwork for communication and long-term impact.
EfVET’s role within ROOT is significant, as it leads the project’s Exploitation and Impact work package. This is where EfVET’s identity as a European VET network truly comes to the fore. ROOT is not only designed to produce outputs, but also to design resources, methodologies and recommendations that continue to generate value long after the project end. EfVET is ensuring that this ambition becomes reality, working to identify how organisations across Europe can adopt and sustain ROOT’s results, and exploring how the project’s impact can extend beyond its funding period.
This work sits alongside the project’s other pillars: coordination of project management, stakeholder co-creation activities, development of career guidance pathways for Earth Observation, Living Labs and dissemination efforts. Together, these work packages build the foundations for a project that responds directly to real needs within the downstream Earth Observation ecosystem, particularly around helping adults understand and access career and training opportunities in this growing sector.
EfVET involvement also reflects the network’s broader mission: strengthening VET systems so they remain responsive to emerging labour markets, including specialised and technical fields like Earth Observation. By bringing its VET expertise into exploitation and sustainability planning, EfVET is helping ROOT translate strong project design into outcomes that VET providers, employers and adult learners can actually use.
