World Youth Skills Day – UNESCO-UNEVOC

Celebrated annually on 15 July, World Youth Skills Day (WYSD), organised by UNESCO-UNEVOC, aims at raising awareness of the importance of empowering the youth with key skills. To mark its 10th anniversary, this year is focused on “Youth empowerment through AI and digital skills”

EfVET has a strategic partnership with UNESCO-UNEVOC in fostering innovation, inclusion, and resilience across VET systems, reflecting a shared commitment to advancing future-ready skills.

Since the spread use of Artificial Intelligence, Technical and Vocational Education and Training must evolve to equip youth with future-ready skills. AI is transforming how we live, learn and work, but it also poses serious risks if not implemented equitably.

Why it matters? AI is rapidly changing TVET by:

  • Personalizing learning through intelligent tutoring systems
  • Supporting immersive training such as virtual reality (VR)
  • Streamlining certification and career guidance
  • Modernizing curricula and aligning training with labour market needs

While AI bring opportunities, it also present major challenges in TVET like bias & inequality, low educator readiness, ethical & privacy concerns or digital misinformation, among others. The WYSD includes several activities worldwide like:

  • High-level panel discussions with UN officials, policymakers, educators and youth leaders at the Learning Planet Institute in Paris and UN Headquarters in New York.
  • Regional satellite events organized through UNEVOC Centres across the globe.
  • Skills in Action Photo Competition 2025: Stay tuned for more details during the launch of the WYSD on 15th of July 2025.
  • Youth Survey – Individuals between 15-35 are invited to share their perspectives on AI and digital skills (open until 30 June). Survey: https://unevoc.unesco.org/i/950
  • Youth Voices invites individuals between 15-35 to showcase how they’re leveraging digitalization and artificial intelligence to transform their everyday life, education and training (open until 15 June).

World Youth Skills Day 2025 serves as a call to action to invest in an inclusive and forward-looking VET system that leverages AI responsibly. Through cooperation, such as the partnership between EfVET and UNEVOC, we can ensure that digital innovation contributes to a more equitable, adaptable, and resilient learning environment.
