The Italian Chamber of Commerce in Barcelona and the Asociación de Centros de Formación Profesional FPEmpresa held the first workshop and discussion group of the European project SiT – Sustainability in TCLF on April 15. The event was conducted online and brought together experts from 14 institutions, including VETRINE, Innogate to Europe, IMPULSA IGUALDAD, INDIPROC, and the Asociación Valenciana de Empresarios del Calzado.
The session focused on analyzing the current state of the sector and identifying the main challenges faced by the professionals in this field: the lack of recycling technology and strategies to manage large volumes of materials, the difficulty in accessing sustainable materials, and the generational replacement in skilled trades.
The discussion led to the exploration of measures to address these issues, which go from educating future professionals on the life cycle of raw materials and promoting production methods that cause a positive impact on the environment and natural resources to providing students with post-consumer materials. Participants emphasized the importance of interdepartmental collaboration to ensure that education and industry move forward together, enabling an effective response to future challenges.
Modules for the Green Transition
The SiT project plans to develop free, online technical modules on biotextiles and recycling management over the next years. So far, the project has focused on creating local and national knowledge triangles and analyzing educational needs. This workshop is part of the development phase for the training materials that will be hosted on the platform and has also been conducted in countries such as Italy, Greece, and Estonia.
The modules will cover topics such as textile processing chemistry, biotechnology and bioengineering, sustainable production, circular economy, critical thinking, and recycling technologies, among others. They will be aimed at both university and vocational training students, as well as professionals. Through these efforts, FPEmpresa and CCIB aim to advance the goals of the SiT project: promoting ecological transformation in vocational training and fostering collaboration among businesses, research centers, and the educational sector.
