May 2026 was very special for MICROIDEA!
At the beginning of the month, an important milestone was reached, with the accreditation of MICROIDEA Certification Scheme for Professional Waiters, by the project partner TÜV AUSTRIA Hellas, aligned with ISO /IEC 17024.
This key achievement strengthens the formal recognition of the skills acquired with MICROIDEA “Waiter” Training Course, implemented in some of the countries of the partnership (Greece, Cyprus and Spain), with a positive impact on the Tourism and Hospitality sector in general, and supports the wider use of micro-credentials in Vocational Education and Training (VET)!

On May 20th, MICROIDEA partners (including EfVET) carried out the project’s International Workshop with Sri Lankan Stakeholders, a session organised following a very successful study visit to Sri Lanka held between 26th and 29th of January this year (more details about this visit are available here)!
Titled “Skills Intelligence, Micro-Credentials and ISO 17024 Certification Pathways for the Tourism Sector”, this Workshop aimed to introduce MICROIDEA methodology and tools to the participants (Sri Lankan stakeholders from Tourism, VET, employment and public policy sectors), and to explore how certification pathways based on ISO/IEC 17024 could support skills recognition, workforce upskilling and international employability in Tourism.
On the second part of the Workshop, there was a session fully dedicated to cooperation opportunities between European and Sri Lankan organisations under EU funded initiatives, led by EfVET with support from other MICROIDEA partners. During this session, all participants had the chance to identify challenges and opportunities for cooperation, to understand what kind of funding initiatives are available for this cooperation to occur, and how they can be harnessed by the different stakeholders towards skills development in the Tourism sector.
