EfVET attended Cedefop’s online webinar the past Friday, 13 of June, themed “The impact of learning outcomes on teaching and learning”, which provided an opportunity for policymakers, stakeholders, experts and researchers to discuss the final findings of their three-year study “The shift to learning outcomes; rhetoric or reality?”. The study analysed the overall influence of learning outcomes on teaching, learning, and assessment in initial Vocational Education and Training, in schools and work-based learning, including apprenticeships.
The webinar started with Anastasia Pouliou (Cedefop), welcoming the participants and explaining the context and objectives of the conference. During the first session, Juergen Siebel (Cedefop), defined the Learning Outcomes (LOs) and highlighted the importance of translating LOs into meaningful impact.
The event was followed by keynote speakers Anastasia Pouliou and Vasileios Symeonidis, from Cedefop, who presented the results of the study. “LOs are a statement of what a learning should know, understand, and be able to do once they finish their studies” they highlighted. More reflections on this matter were shared by Karin Luomi-Messerer (3s Research & Consulting), Simon Broek (Ockham IPS), and Donatas Pocius (PPMI), who contributed to Cedefop’s three-year study.
The webinar featured four breakout sessions, each focused on an area of the LOs approach. EfVET participated in the 1st breakout session; “How can we ensure that all stakeholders are engaged?”. Later, the moderators from the sessions, Christopher James Lees (Cedefop), Carita Blomqvist (Cedefop), Mariya Dzhengozova (3s Research & Consulting) and Monika Auzinger (3s Research & Consulting), reported the results to the audience, sharing national perspectives, policy pathways and key insights.
The event concluded with a panel discussion about future-steps, with keynote speakers Koen Nomden (European Commision), Jude Cosgrove (European Commission), Agnes Roman (European Trade Union Committee for Education) and Nora Angelova (European Students’ Union), who discussed the use and potential benefit of LOs in practice.
