BIRGIT Training on Building Information Models Integrated with Geographical Information was a three-year Erasmus+ funded project concluded on January 31st 2025, for which EfVET contributed mostly with its experience on the fields of Dissemination and Communication.
Coordinated by Ocellus (SE), all BIRGIT partners (including FORMA.Azione and GISIG (IT), University North (HR), Novogit AB (SE) and Navarra Industry Association (ES)) worked together to develop interdisciplinary learning materials that provide VET students and professionals working in Construction, Architecture and Engineering areas with competences for a successful integration of Building Information Modelling (BIM) and Geographic Information System (GIS) technologies, with a positive impact on efficiency in all steps of community planning.
Thus, the project’s multiple initiatives carried out throughout its implementation period allowed to:
- Understand the requirements for integrating BIM and GIS technologies in VET and Higher VET;
Map existent courses within BIRGIT partnership and localise/translate them to be used by partners that lack BIM or GIS basic courses;
- Develop new learning materials, connecting competences from BIM and GIS domains to reply to the skills needs and gaps identified by BIRGIT partners;
- Test the developed learning materials with VET and Higher VET Teachers, Students and Experts in BIM-GIS integration, and improve such materials based on participants’ feedback.
All of the Reports produced in BIRGIT, and that provide a descriptive insight into all of these initiatives, are available on the project’s website, at https://birgitproject.eu/project-results/.
BIRGIT learning materials are also available on the project’s website. At https://birgitproject.eu/learning-materials/. They are tailored for professionals, students, and educators looking for updated teaching resources related to the integration of BIM and GIS, and are organised in three different learning packages:
- Introduction to BIM (including fundamentals of BIM and its benefits);
- City Models & Digital Twins (for students with a GIS background);
- BIM-GIS Integration (including integration approaches, workflow and data quality issues).
In each learning package, users can find lectures and assignments translated into the languages of the partnership and that can be used for free.
What’s next for BIRGIT?
Now that the project is over, the partner organisations involved in the development of the project’s learning materials will be working towards their integration in formal VET contexts, starting with their own institutions.
If you are interested in knowing and in being involved in this process, please contact BIRGIT Coordination at https://birgitproject.eu/contact-us/.
EfVET hopes its Members working in the areas addressed by the project can benefit from BIRGIT results, with a positive impact on students, teachers and other professionals.
