We are proud to share that EfVET Executive Director, Paolo Nardi, was recently invited to lecture at the University College London – Institute of Education, as part of the MBA in Leadership in Education. A sincere thank you to Prof. Monica E. Mincu for the invitation and for promoting dialogue between research and leadership practice.
Engaging with the current and future leaders of vocational education and training (VET), Paolo brought a dual perspective: from within a VET centre and from EfVET’s Europe-wide network of 2,000+ VET providers. He shared insights into how leadership in VET must evolve to meet the complexity of today’s challenges.
🔍 Four key messages emerged from the session:
1️⃣ Leadership as Empowerment, Not Control: True leadership today means fostering a growth mindset, embracing uncertainty, and empowering learners and colleagues alike.
2️⃣ Culture Matters: Organizational culture isn’t decorative – it shapes behaviour, commitment, and belonging. Leaders must be aware of the values and assumptions they promote.
3️⃣ From Hierarchy to Networks: The most impactful educational leaders work relationally engaging their ecosystems, not just managing structures.
4️⃣ Resilience, Inclusion & Entrepreneurship: VET leadership today means designing institutions that support human development, tackle systemic inequalities, and nurture the skills to navigate a rapidly changing world.
At EfVET, we are committed to building a culture in education that promotes resilience, inclusion, and a growth mindset. This opportunity to contribute to academic and professional reflection at UCL confirms the growing relevance of VET leadership in shaping the future of learning.
