EfVET attended the Learning Strategies in the Era of Articial Intelligence conference organized by EFFEBI, Micros and EBTN

Milan, 14 March 2025. EfVET took part to the conference organised by our member EFFEBI, Micros and EBTN (The European Banking and Financial Services Training Association) on LEARNING STRATEGIES IN THE ERA OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE. EfVET President spoke about Current and Future Scenarios in VET – vocational education and training. Professor Massimiliano Santoro CEO of the Gruppo Prospeta of Italy and Dott Mario Spatafora Secretary General of EFFEBI  facilitated proceedings.

EfVET’s President focused on how AI is transforming VET and at the same time presenting challenges for teachers, learners, employers as well as other stakeholders. AI si not only transforming access to information but also methods on how such information can lead to developing skills away from the workplace but also within workplace environments. Besides creating new environments, AI in VET is also an excellent source for skills forecasting on tracking job market trends and adapting learning systems to fit personalised learning.

Professor Calleja spoke at length on how AI-driven trends are shaping VET including assessment certification by increasing credibility and transparency through blockchain technology. However, AI also carries challenges such as access barriers to developing regions also in Europe, cost of integrating AI in more training centres and the training of educators to match their skills to advanced AI methodologies. Drawing on three economic sectors namely health, manufacturing and financial services, more and more sectors are already transforming their workplace to match advancements in technology and AI.

Referring to initiatives by the European Commission on AI, clear challenges of ethics and data usage in AI as well as the role of human-AI collaboration are arising, requiring three fundamental mindsets that that James Calleja pointed out:

  • being a sceptic and making it difficult for education to accommodate AI;
  • taking the extreme position of being hyper-technologists and thinking that AI has all the solutions that human being can encounter and the third acting in a transformationalist mode;
  • bringing gradual change by ensuring that all learners, teachers and stakeholders own that part of AI which enhances their career and quality of life.

EfVET, thanks to project such as REWIRE, Digital PR and several initiatives at policy level, is at the forefront of coping with technological disruption in VET. Stay tuned for more info!
