EfVET Internationalisation & Learning Mobility Thematic Team Annual Event Opening

EfVET is currently in Trento for the EfVET Annual  Thematic Team Event “New Era: From Strategy to Practice – Training & Exchange Lab”, a dynamic 3-day programme bringing together VET stakeholders from across Europe to turn strategy into concrete action.

The event was opened by the keynote speech of Mr. Mario Nava, Director-General at the European Commission, who set the scene for the upcoming European VET Strategy and the crucial role of skills, mobility and partnerships. [Click here to watch the welcoming speech]

Key takeaways from his speech:

  • 9 out of 10 shortage occupations in Europe require vocational qualifications
  • Nearly 4 in 5 SMEs struggle to find skilled worker

The upcoming European Strategy will aim to make VET more attractive, innovative, and responsive to labour market needs, strengthening Europe’s competitiveness and resilience.

Over these days in Trento, the agenda reflects exactly this ambition:

  • Discussionson the future of mobility in Erasmus+
  • Workshopsonquality, policy and implementation of mobility
  • Exchangelabsand networking sessions to share practices
  • Focusoncooperation with third countries and new VET strategies
  • Visits,project showcases and community-building activities

A strong spotlight is placed on apprentice mobility:

While still limited (~4%), it has a transformative impact on learners and significantly boosts the attractiveness of VET. However, challenges remain, for instance, in administrative barriers to employer engagement.

However, participants highlighted encouraging progress in the number of European networks and coalitions, long-term mobilities, and the more prominent role of mobility coordinators.

Looking ahead, the proposed increase of the Erasmus+ budget (to €40.8 billion) reinforces the strategic importance of investing in skills and mobility. The event is showing that we are entering a new era for VET, where collaboration, mobility and innovation are not just priorities, but necessities.
