Expert in Building Automation – A New Joint Qualification
The project consortium of the Erasmus+ KA3 project “Smart Development of HVET for Highly Skilled and Mobile Workforce” has developed the new joint qualification of the Expert in Building Automation. It is based on the broader range of market needs for the development of highly skilled, qualified and mobile workforce at EQF level 5 taking into account specifics of current work and future trends identified by employers in three partnering countries: Croatia, Italy and Slovenia.
The qualification profile is outlined by Units of competences and learning outcomes while each unit of learning outcomes is part of the complete qualification that can be independently evaluated or validated. The units of the new qualification profile are:
- Commercial work
- Project management and communication
- Safe environment and health protection
- Hardware and installation
- Software – design of installation procedures
According to the qualification profile the Expert in building automation (EBA) connects different kind of electrical, electronic and machinery equipment into a coordinated system, which saves energy and increases user comfort level. The EBA performs operations from identifying customer needs to installation of the building automation systems both of hardware and software. The EBA is also responsible for the management of the product lifecycles.
The development process of the qualification profile was based on questionnaires with employers (105), focus groups and workshops with employers. The national and transnational working groups made of researchers and (H)VET teachers and trainers used all the valuable information and feedback in order to create a qualification profile that meets the present and future labour market needs and fills the gap in the needed skills. The development process was challenging as it had to meet the national requirements of different educational systems as well as different approaches of educational institutions.
As the next step partners have developed national curricula based on the qualification profile which are in all three countries in the procedure of formal validation by the competent authorities. For more information and updates please visit the project’s web page or the Facebook page.
