Time to reflect and distill the notions learned during the #EUSocialForum25 in Brussels, which featured influential voices from Europe and beyond who shared inspiring visions, technical analysis, policy proposals, and a scan of the current situation in the VET system, labor market, and beyond.
What is the future of the VET ecosystem, and what is the institutional role of EfVET in this larger scenario? How is the European Union changing in the context of the global zeitgeist, and how does this influence policies on education, training, learning and VET? We elaborated and selected key inputs from the conference with the needs of our members within the VET system in mind.

“At a decisive moment for the EU and the world, facing big transformations and challenges, the Forum addressed how to improve skills and competences and recognized what skills will be most important in the EU’s future workforce.” This is the opening sentence at a decisive historical moment for the EU. How can EfVET position itself in this scenario as a significant voice in the VET sector?
The Forum is an important event from which to extract key messages for and from the VET ecosystem and solidify the institutional role of EfVET. Since the beginning of the conference, it has been clear that our society, especially education, training and lifelong learning, is entering a new phase influenced by rapid changes in terms of defense, international policy, job market, coming till to management of EU funds, and more. The next years will define the “EU perspective” and the whole “European project.”
A quotes summarizes the climate of sudden change and the need to stay abreast of the times, giving the VET ecosystem a central role in the education of the future. We need skills, but above all, we need people, qualified people. Policies that make people, including migrants, capable of taking specific training paths to become skilled people. Ryan Roslansky, CEO of LinkedIn, emphasized the evolving world, stating: “What you need for a certain job was different years ago than it is today-even if you are not changing jobs, your job is changing on you. Skills change over time.”
