MOSAIC: Fostering Vocational Excellence in the Arts and Crafts across Europe and beyond
Launched in September 2022, MOSAIC brought together 14 full partners and 4 associated partners from 7 countries (including Armenia and Canada), coordinated by SEPR (Société d’Enseignement Professionnel du Rhône), l’école des métiers (FR), to embrace the multifaceted challenges that arise from the evolution of Arts and Crafts professions, encompassing technical and transversal skills, sustainable development, digital transitions and social inclusion.
Aimed to ensure high quality skills that lead to quality employment and career-long opportunities, while meeting the needs of an innovative, inclusive and sustainable economy, MOSAIC has reached its conclusion after 4 years.
During this time, MOSAIC partners (coming from Vocational Education and Training (VET), Higher Education (HE) / Research Centres, and Companies and Chambers of Commerce working in the Arts and Crafts sector) have cooperated to carry out multiple activities, including training pilots, mobility activities, national and international conferences, meetings with stakeholders and other events that allowed to highlight MOSAIC and its contribution for Vocational Excellence in the Arts and Crafts, and to develop its results and outcomes, involving more than 500 Vocational Education and Training (VET) teachers, trainers and learners, as well as Arts and Craft Professionals and other key stakeholders. MOSAIC results and outcomes include:
- 6 Research Reports addressing key issues such as digital teaching, environmental education, social inclusion, skills needs in the Arts and Crafts sector, and a list of recommendations that promote Research and Development in VET (available here).
- An online training platform containing all MOSAIC Training Courses for teachers and students, and their respective sectoral and transversal training modules, including The Future of Making in Wood, 3D Printing, Developing Professional Portfolio, Social Inclusion or Entrepreneurship (available here).
- Mobility Catalogues that lists mobility opportunities offered by some of MOSAIC partner organisations in areas like Ceramics and Pottery, Jewelry, Woodworking and Carpentry, Textile and Fashion design, and Graphic and Visual Design (available here for VET students and here for Arts and Crafts professionals).
MOSAIC also created an European Arts and Crafts Observatory, “Crafting the Future” (here), designed for those in search for Vocational Excellence, with contents dedicated to Educators and Students (Training), Arts and Crafts Professionals (Business Hub) and Researchers (Scientific Hub), which will continue being updated beyond the project.
Information about all these and other MOSAIC outcomes and resources (and links for social media channels) are available on its website, at https://mosaiceuproject.eu/.
“MOSAIC Hackathon – Crafting skills for the future”: An webinar aimed to showcase one of the most important results of the project (May 28th, 2026 – 14:00 CET)
During its life cycle, MOSAIC went beyond what was expected, both in terms of initiatives implemented and in terms of participants involved – this was the case of the Hackathon methodology implemented in the MOSAIC International Skills Performance (ISP), conducted back in 2024, and afterwards, in 2025 by some of the project’s VET partners.
This webinar, carried out in the scope of MOSAIC Ambassador’s Group / EfVET Cultural and Creative Industries Working Group (here), will help participants understanding:
- What is MOSAIC Hackathon methodology, and how it was created;
- How the Hackathon methodology was carried out by some of MOSAIC partners after the project’s ISP;
- The impact of this methodology on VET learners, VET teachers and experts involved, and on skills development;
- How it can be replicated by other VET schools and training centres.
Registrations to attend the last MOSAIC initiative are open here.
