On 27–28 November 2024, EfVET joined over 150 stakeholders from the Youth, Education, and Training sectors across 26 EU countries to exchange experiences and build capacity in developing strategic work on the horizontal priority “Participation in Democratic Life, Civic Engagement and common values” of Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps, an event organised by SALTO Participation & Information .
The parallel sessions and participants interactions served to reflect on challenges, best practices and participatory approaches to enhance democratic participation and civic engagement in programs such as Erasmus+ and Solidarity Corps, developing a sense of community across Europe.
Through interactive sessions and collaborative discussions, participants explored challenges, shared best practices, and developed participatory approaches to enhance civic engagement, fostering a sense of community across Europe.
This four-day event took place according to this program overview:
Tuesday, 26 November:
Participants arrived in Tallinn, settled in, and explored the city. The day concluded with a meeting for National Agencies’ Participation Contact Points.
Wednesday, 27 November:
The day focused on exploring democratic participation, cross-sector collaboration, and the role of Erasmus+ and the European Solidarity Corps. Participants engaged in parallel sessions.
Wednesday’s morning sessions focused on intersectoral cooperation, creating environments conducive to participation, and the importance of shared values and the right to participation for all. Discussions also explored the role of research in promoting participation and integrating democratic principles into education.
The afternoon sessions centered on institutionalizing participatory culture, analyzing gaps in decision-making, and involving young people in governance. Additionally, the discussions highlighted the role of program ambassadors, lessons from youth-led organizations, and collaboration with adult learners and educators.

Thursday, 28 November:
Participants critically evaluated current challenges and developed strategic plans for enhancing democratic participation within their organizations and the Erasmus+ and Solidarity Corps programs.
Friday, 29 November:
The event concluded with reflections, optional study visits, and cooperation meetings, encouraging participants to implement their insights and strengthen future collaborations.
Interactive sessions, panel discussions, and a vibrant cooperation fair fostered networking and collaborative learning throughout the event.
