PoVE WATER project groups meeting in Leeuwarden
PoVE Water project is one of the five Platforms of VET Excellence approved for funding by the Erasmus+ programme in 2019 under the Centres of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) pilot initiative launched by the European Commission in 2018.
After long time due to the pandemic restrictions, PoVE Water partners attended a project meeting in Leeuwarden (Netherlands) from 4 to 8 October 2021. The partners learned about water ecology, water pollution, visited the Water campus and participated at the WETSUS congress.
The WETSUS congress days attracted over 100 participants from different countries. The Netherlands is famous for its innovative water technology. The theme of the WETSUS Congress 2021 was “Innovation for a fair and sustainable society”. WETSUS, European centre of excellence for sustainable water technology, is a facilitating intermediary for trendsetting know-how development. Monday October 4, the theme was addressed by speakers with various backgrounds, from business, science, and Dutch governmental perspectives. This year, Mr. Emad al-Dhubhani has won the Marcel Mulder prize for his contributions to a water-splicing membrane for water-based batteries. Tuesday October 5 was all about science.
Wednesday October 6, a transnational project meeting was hosted by CIV Water. PoVE Water has been working this year on the water sector, translating it into an approach of vocational excellence. All project partners share a common interest in developing the full potential of VET institutions to play a proactive role in support of growth, competitiveness, and innovation of the water sector.
Thursday October 7, PoVE Water visited a Woudagemaal – pumping station. The visitor center opened in 2011 and designed by J.O.N.G architects, is connected via a footbridge to the largest still operating stream pumping station in the world. Later in the afternoon we visited a water forest.
Together with partners in Leeuwarden, PoVE Water plays an important role in the inspiration of young people to choose for a scientific or entrepreneurial career in which they can help solve the global water problems
The PoVE Water project will be introduced by the project coordinator, Pieter Hoekstra from CIV Water, during a workshop session organised by the EfVET, EARLAL and DG-EMPL at the European Week of Regions and Cities, that will be held online on 13 October 2021.
