Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, highlights social commitment from FPEmpresa VET Centres during COVID-19
On the 22nd of July 2020, the Association of VET Centres FPEmpresa was honoured to be formally invited by the Spanish Government to the presentation of the new Plan to Modernise Vocational Training. José Luis Durán, Vice President of FPEmpresa, and Tomás Alonso, Treasurer of the association, both members of the permanent board, attended this presentation at La Moncloa Palace in Madrid.
Pedro Sánchez, Spain’s Prime Minister, praised all FPEmpresa VET Centres for their hard work and solidarity towards the entire Spanish society during the COVID-19 pandemic. In these difficult times, all these VET Centres have used all of their resources to manufacture personal protection equipment for healthcare staff, police officers and assistance institutions. He stated that it was a piece of news published on FPEmpresa’s website explaining some of these initiatives that caught his attention. “They are an example of adaptation, entrepreneurship and, above all, given this critical moment we are going through, of social commitment, which is, after all, the hallmark of Vocational Training in our country”, said the Prime Minister.
This new plan, with a budget of 1.5 billion euros over the next four years, is the largest investment ever to be allocated to a vocational training plan in Spain. It is aimed at providing a rapid and consistent response to the increasing demand of job positions that require official qualifications. Luis García, Chairman of FPEmpresa, values this plan very positively: “We believe that the plan is well-targeted and that it includes the vast majority of the proposals that we have been putting together over the last few years”. Nonetheless, he remarks: “This 4-year effort ought to be sustainable. Vocational Training needs this support not only for a fixed period of years, but consistently in time, so that it can count on sufficient investment to keep adapting to society’s new needs”.
