The second edition of SUN4VET, the international event promoting the European mobility and Vocational Education and Training was held in Fuerteventura
From May 30 to June 3, the delegation of Asociación Mundus in the Canary Island, SunDreams Global, held the annual event in Fuerteventura that gathered for a few days more than 50 European partners coming from United Kingdom, Finland, Croatia, Poland, Estonia, Portugal, Bulgaria, and Germany, with whom they want to continue building the future of Erasmus in the Canary Islands.
Asociación Mundus organised the meeting and promoted networking sessions among 50 European partners. This was also the time for the award ceremony for Sun Dreams Global’s collaborating companies and entities that have hosted the VET students for their internships during the last year.
Sundreams Global, Mundus’ delegation in Fuerteventura, is an organisation in charge of coordinating the experience of European students who choose the Canary Islands as a learning destination. It has a wide network of collaborating companies in almost all professional sectors that welcome young international VET students. They are currently welcoming more than 400 students and 60 teachers each year, and they collaborate with more than 100 companies.
From May 30 to June 3, this year’s edition of Sun4VET took place in the Canary island of Fuerteventura. During those days, Sundreams’ team had the opportunity to show the European partners their own facilities, visit the companies and spend time with the tutors that host students during their vocational training practices, currently at Fuerteventura and from September on also in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, the biggest Island of the region. They got to live the Erasmus experience first hand by doing some of the cultural activities that are proposed to the students.
They also had the ability to discuss the next Erasmus+ Program 2021-2027 of the European Commission, since the challenges for Mobility seem to be a booster for everybody. The current strategic projects involving the organisation were presented as well as their impact on the island.
The event had the honour of hosting Mr. Joao Santos (Senior Expert in the General Directorate of Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion of the European Commission) through an online conference during the visit to the facilities of Escuela de Hostelería Europea, one of the organisation’s partners. He introduced the plans, priorities and future objectives of the European Union and talked about the financing instruments, the real means to achieve these great political objectives. This intervention was a true guide for all those responsible for European entities present at SUN4VET.
On Wednesday, June 1st, the award ceremony was held at the Corralejo Auditorium, for companies and entities collaborating with Sun Dreams Global. These companies play a fundamental role in the experience of European students on the island. The ceremony seeks to give visibility and recognise the great work they make when it comes to welcoming and accompanying these youngsters.
The event began with a brief presentation followed by a carousel of sectoral tables where experiences were shared. Companies that have made an exceptional job hosting students this year were awarded for their contribution to improve the future of VET in the Canary Island and to strengthen the quality of the Erasmus programme. The evening ended with a Spanish wine and an appetiser for all the participants.
Sun4VET was the perfect occasion for stakeholders to meet in person and strengthen ties, to think about the future of VET, to discover Corralejo (La Oliva) and Fuerteventura in general and to continue promoting Erasmus together.
Thanks to the Erasmus program, to all the strategic project partners, to the companies that host students, to the educational centers, to the City Council of La Oliva and to the Sun Dreams Global Association team.
