Training and Innovation: Boosting Soft Skills in VET with the STEAM Approach

In a constantly evolving job market, soft skills are more important than ever. Abilities such as critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving not only play a key role in shaping career paths but are also crucial for addressing future challenges.

The STEAM Boosting Soft Skills (STEAM Bo.SS) project, funded under the Erasmus+ KA2 programme (2023-1-IT01-KA220-VET-00016399) and approved by the Italian Erasmus Agency INAPP, aims to address this need by focusing on developing the soft skills essential for staying competitive in the labour market.

The project is led by I.F.O.A. – Istituto Formazione Operatore Aziendale, a member of EfVET. Alongside IFOA, another EfVET member, EDUGEP (Portugal), is involved. Moreover, the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia – UNIMORE (Italy), CIPFP Misericordia (Spain), and Saaremaa Gümnaasium (Estonia) are partners.

At the core of the project is the adoption of the STEAM Approach, an interdisciplinary educational methodology that integrates Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics to solve complex problems. This approach not only stimulates curiosity but also facilitates the acquisition of essential transversal skills to respond creatively and critically to professional challenges. STEAM Bo.SS aims to train trainers so they can effectively pass on these skills to students, preparing a new generation of professionals capable of adapting to the continuous evolution of the job market.

Another distinctive element of the project is the creation of a Community of Practice (CoP). This community aims to encourage the sharing of best practices, experiences, and methodologies among teachers, trainers, and career guidance. The CoP offers a unique opportunity to build an international network of experts committed to continuously improving teaching methods for developing transversal skills. In today’s dynamic environment, collaboration among professionals is vital to face future challenges.

The MOOC for VET Trainers: Enhancing Soft Skills with STEAM.

We are excited to announce the launch of the MOOC for VET Trainers, an innovative online course designed to help trainers enhance students’ soft skills through the STEAM approach. The MOOC is fully self-paced, allowing each participant to follow the course at their own speed. It is an essential resource for professionals who wish to acquire and pass on crucial transversal skills for success in the job market.

Interested individuals can register for the course directly on the project’s official website .

Next Steps: Growth, Collaboration, and Innovation.

In the coming months, the STEAM Bo.SS project will continue with a series of training activities, workshops, and initiatives aimed at strengthening the link between the educational/training world and the professional sphere.  Our goal is to build an international community of trainers who can support the continuous evolution of transversal skills, which are fundamental for success in the global job market.
