Vocational Excellence Certificates: the statement released by the President of EfVET, Prof. Joachim James Calleja

Turin, 12-13 March 2025 – EfVET participated in the ETF conference titled “Internationalizing Vocational Excellence”, marking an important step into the experience of the CoVEs.

On this occasion, four members of EfVET were awarded with the Vocational Excellence Certificate. President of EfVET, Prof. Joachim James Calleja, commented with these words:

“The ETF conference in Torino on internationalising vocational excellence – Making excellence meaningful for all learners – has been a celebration of the EU Agency of its practical and contextualised role it continues to play in Europe and beyond on the added value of vocational education.

As a European training providers’ organisation, EfVET together with EVTA and EVBB, we could network on the role we play in meeting the challenges proposed by technology and the changing mindsets of learners, workers and employers. EfVET is today in the forefront in promoting a strategy for European VET which emanates from our direct experience of vocational education in schools, colleges and Universities of Applied Sciences.

Evidence of EFVET concrete approach to VET is the fact that four members – CIFP Pico Frentes (ES), CIFP Rio Tormes (ES), ENGIM Piemonte – San Luca (IT) and Apro Formazione (IT) – were awarded by ETF with the first Vocational Excellence Certificates. I congratulate these centres for their invaluable work with young people, teachers, trainers and employers in producing skills that make them employable and enjoying a better quality of life. Beyond the rhetoric and often reengineered research studies on VET, lies the reality of hands-on experiences in our training institutions.

As an organisation, EfVET together with our partner associations, we will continue to provide concrete and tangible insights in the current and future of VET. European VET is still under-resourced and funded at national and European levels. We hope that conferences such as the one organised by the ETF will serve as a wake-up call for policy makers to adequately support VET at all levels”.

We warmly thank ETF for their leadership, and we are confident the EU Commission, and namely DG EMPL and DG EAC will keep supporting the CoVE program also in the next MFF, as announced by EVP Roxana Minzatu launching the Union of Skills.
