The value of Vocational Education and Training (VET) relies on its capacity to provide learners with essential skills that support their personal development and enhance their employability opportunities, under inclusive lifelong learning and learner-centred approaches. Moreover, VET has strong connections with a labour market that is concerned with how formal qualifications can cope with constant emerging skills needs and adapt training accordingly.

One of the solutions to these challenges is the implementation of micro-credentials by VET systems, not in replacement of formal qualifications but as a complement that provides individuals the opportunity to develop the necessary skills through short, tailored training modules.

However, the added value of micro-credentials in the educational landscape is still being addressed in some Member States, even though in some EU countries there is already a drafted regulation/legislation for the recognition and certification of micro-credentials (as in the case of Czechia, Estonia, Ireland, Latvia, Spain and Slovakia), critical for their portability, transferability and scalability.

This hands-on workshop aims to address the challenges inherent to the implementation of micro-credentials in VET systems, and to showcase tools that result from specific Erasmus+ projects (aimed at VET providers, teachers, students, professionals and other key stakeholders from different sectors), and that are potential solutions to those challenges. 

VET equip learners with skills for employability and lifelong growth, closely linked to labour market needs. Micro-credentials offer flexible, short training to complement formal qualifications, though recognition varies across EU states. This workshop explores challenges and Erasmus+ tools supporting their implementation in VET.
